Here's how the Genesis Uplink Terminal works
After weeks of silent updates towards Counter-Strike 2's backend, dealing mostly with VAC, VAC Live and VACNET, Valve shipped a considerably update earlier today, bringing a new weapons collection into the game. As opposed to handing out direct drops after one hits the weekly XP mark or through a case, this new collection stands behind a mechanism called the "Genesis Uplink Terminal". Let's take a quick look at how the Genesis collection works through the Uplink Terminal.
The Genesis Uplink Terminal is handed out as a free drop within the weekly care package. Upon claiming it, one can unseal the Genesis Uplink Terminal to get randomized offers staged as an arms dealer conversation. The offer includes a skin from the Genesis Collection and a proposed price. The price mentioned comes out of the player's steam wallet, which can be topped up using real world currency. Whether these prices are set in stone or if there is an algorithm in place to inflate a skin's price until enough rejections are recorded is yet to be uncovered.
So far, the community has reported that the Genesis Uplink Terminal provides up to five offers before shutting down. These offers are randomized in terms of skin, quality and rarity. To sum it up:
-
Player gets the Genesis Uplink Terminal as a weekly drop
-
Player unseals Genesis Uplink Terminal
-
Arms dealer sends an offer from the Genesis Collection
-
Player can pay the quoted price for the skin or reject the offer
-
Upon rejection, the arms dealer sends a new offer
-
1 Genesis Uplink Terminal takes a maximum of 5 rejections
