Shanghai Major: Opening Stage preview

The RMRs have run their course, all twenty four teams are locked in, players have submitted their autographs to Valve, the Pick'Em is live and Counter-Strike 2's second Major, the first in Shanghai is all set to commence this weekend boasting a healthy number of new names who the community is eager to see in action.

The Opening Stage of the Perfect World Shanghai 2024 Major starts this weekend- 30th November 2024 with sixteen teams locking horns in a swiss bracket to determine the eight teams that advance to the Elimination Stage where a similar format determines the playoffs candidates. Representing Asia, The MongolZ and Rare Atom will start in the Opening Stage.

Opening Stage teams

Perfect World Shanghai 2024 Major's first set of games in the opening round will take place between FURIA-GamerLegion and Virtus.pro-MIBR at 08:30AM IST this Saturday. Fast-forward to the last set of games on the first day and we have two intra-regional clashes. The MongolZ will take on Rare Atom at 11:30AM alongside the Brazilian derby between paIN and Imperial.

Four slots each from the European RMRs A and B lead straight to the Elimination Stage of the Major which were grabbed by Vitality, NAVI, MOUZ and FaZe from European RMR A and G2, Spirit, 3DMAX and HEROIC. The Elimination Stage of the Major starts on 5th December 2024 and will run for ten days with the backend reserved for the playoffs. The Perfect World Shanghai 2024 Major carries a prize pool of $1,250,000 USD and the winners walk away with a $500,000 cash prize.
