Everything you need to know about HLTV's Rating 3.0
HLTV has taken another substantial step in improving their rating system by launching Rating 3.0, which now includes metrics like Round Swing and economy adjustment.
The first rating system introduced by HLTV, Rating 1.0 in 2010, was aimed to improve on simple K/D by adding multi-kills. Then in 2017, Rating 2.0 arrived with new metrics like KAST, Damage, and Impact rating, which rewarded both supportive players and aggressive entry fraggers. Then in 2023, Rating 2.1 came, adapting the system to Counter-Strike 2 and penalising saving.
Now, the Rating 3.0 is further focused at ameliorating the rating system by combining the eco-adjusted version or rating 2.1 with the Round Swing metric instead of impact rating. It will filter out the kills against players on a low buy and give a higher rating to those who get more round defining kills. The round swing metric will credit players based on how a kill changes the round’s outcome, factoring in trades,

Impact on Players
-
Aggressive riflers like YEKINDAR, malbsMd lose ground since eco-frags and risky openers are punished more.
-
Supportive or clutch-heavy riflers like Jimpphat, Techno gain recognition for efficient, low-death play.
-
AWPers can rise or fall depending on how they use their weapon in impactful duels.
-
Mid-round specialists (e.g., Twistzz) benefit, while players who relied on team success (e.g., apEX) now need more direct impact.
-
Eco-fragging inflates stats less, EliGE’s 2.06 rating in one game drops to 1.40 after eco-adjustment.
