Vitality end 2025 with a Major win at Budapest

Consecutive Major Winners: Vitality enters the list

Astralis remain on top with their famous Hattrick Major run

With the conclusion of the StarLadder Budapest 2025 Major, Vitality has locked in back to back Major title wins. Throughout the year, Vitality has dropped dominant showings all across the board, levelling and surpassing various significant records along the way. Here we take a look at all the teams that have secured back to back titles wins at Counter-Strike Majors. Before we dive into the list, lets shine some light on those who narrowly missed the cut:

  • NAVI
After their win at PGL Stockholm 2021, marking s1mple's first Major win, NAVI crushed the Legends Stage with a 3-0 and waltzed into the grand-final of the Antwerp Major in 2022, where an unpredictable FaZe knocked them out, denying the defending champions their second consecutive Major title.

  • Sweden Ninjas in Pyjamas
Ninjas in Pyjamas were one of the most feared teams in the early days of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Their 87-0 win streak stands even today. Their dominance didn't end at local LANs and A-tier events, it rubbed off on the initial iterations of the Majors as well. Despite winning just a single Major, Ninjas in Pyjamas recorded five consecutive grand-final appearances.

With that out of the way, lets dive into the list of consecutive Major winners:

1. Astralis

Astralis lock in their hattrick Major title at StarLadder Berlin 2019

Widely known for resetting and completely changing the Counter-Strike meta forever, Astralis went on a domination run back in their prime that very few can imagine, let alone replicate. Astralis won their first Major back in 2017 where kjaerbye become the youngest Major MVP and the Danes went through a bit of a form slump before recovering and battling NAVI out of the grand-final at FACEIT London 2018.

Astralis delivered a strong statement at the IEM Katowice 2019 Major where they did not concede a single match, pulling off a flawless Major win, ending ENCE's fairytale run in the grand-final. The Danes went a step ahead, winning out the StarLadder Berlin Major 2019, marking a hattrick of Major wins.

2. fnatic

Fnatic's 3rd Major win at ESL One Cologne 2016

After winning the first ever Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major, fnatic had disappointing outings at Katowice, Cologne and Jönköping, failing to regain their winning formula. At IEM Katowice 2015, fnatic came back stronger clearing the group stage with a 2-0 and dropping just a single map in their playoffs run, marking their second Major win. A couple of months later ESL One Cologne threw the Swedes into a double-elimination bracket group stage and despite the changeup, they delivered similar showings, eventually qualifying to and clearing the single-elimination bracket playoffs, locking in their second consecutive Major win.

3. Vitality

Vitality overcome FaZe at Budapest

Fresh off a Major title win at StarLadder Budapest 2025, Vitality is the newest addition to the list. After signing off Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in style with a Major win at BLAST.tv Paris 2023 in front of a home crowd, Vitality took their sweet time to find their footing in Counter-Strike 2. After snatching ropz from FaZe, Vitality suddenly became a nightmare for most teams to play against as apEX now had the ZywOo-ropz duo at his disposal.

After winning nearly everything in the first half of 2025, Vitality ended the season on a high, winning out the BLAST.tv Austin 2025 Major, taking The MongolZ, who made a phenomenal run, recording Asian Counter-Strike's first ever Major grand-final appearance. Vitality came back into the second season of the year slightly duller but picked up the pace towards the end of the year. A win at ESL Pro League Season 22 gave them a much needed confidence boost as apEX and co. wreaked havoc at the Budapest Major, marking their second consecutive Major win. Vitality ended the year with nine S-tier trophies under their belt.

4. Luminosity / SK Gaming

Luminosity Gaming mark Brazilian CS's 1st Major win at MLG Columbus 2016

Wrapping up the list is Luminosity and SK Gaming who took the scenic route but still got there in the end. This is the only instance where the same roster has recorded consecutive Major wins under different banners. In a massive breakthrough for Brazilian Counter-Strike, FalleN led Luminosity into the grand-final of MLG Columbus 2015. Taking down NAVI, Luminosity marked Brazilian Counter-Strike's first ever Major title win. To this day, The MLG Columbus 2016 Major is remembered by coldzera's jumping AWP collateral on the B-site of Mirage in the semi-final which earned him a graffiti on the map.

Heading into the ESL One Cologne 2016 Major as the defending champions but under the banner of SK Gaming this time, The Brazilians barely broke a sweat in the group stage and went on to put up a dominant showing in the playoffs, taking down Liquid in the grand-final to successfully defend their crown.
