s1mple vs ZywOo headlines opening games at IEM Atlanta 2026
The opening round of games for IEM Atlanta 2026 has been announced by ESL, with a s1mple vs ZywOo clashing being the blockbuster clash in the opening round with Mongolian star Senzu also set to make his BC.Game debut. The IEM Atlanta 2026 event is ESL's final event before the IEM Cologne Major 2026 and will be held between May 11 - May 17, 2026 with a prize pool of $1,000,000 and 16 teams fighitng it out for the title.
The 16 teams taking part have been divided into two groups of eight, with the group stages set to be a double elimination BO3 format where the group winners will move to the semi-finals while the second and third placed teams in both groups will move to the quarter-finals. The Playoffs will follow a single elimination BO3 format with the final being a BO5 game and there will also be a third place decider game.
Vitality come in as the heavy favourites and are placed in Group A along with s1mple and Senzu's BC.Game, B8, BetBoom, paiN, NRG, FUT and FaZe. The Vitality vs BC.Game is the big game of the opening round as it will pit two of the game's greats, s1mple and ZywOo against each other and it will also be the first time we get to see Senzu in the BC.Game jersey after having moved to the team on a loan from The MongolZ in a surprise move recently.
This is not the first time we will see s1mple and ZywOo go up against each other this year though as the two icons faced each other at the start of the year at IEM Kraków 2026. The two had met in the opening game of Group B back then where Vitality picked up a 2-0 win with s1mple finishing the match as the highest rated BC.Game player with a 1.07 rating while ZywOo dropped a 1.13 rating.
Group B has the likes of Natus Vincere (NAVI), Astralis, Liquid, M80, Legacy, GamerLegion, SINNERS and PassionUA with the old rivalry of Liquid and Astralis being the notable opening game of the group.
