Asia's best performances at Counter-Strike Majors

The MongolZ continue to take the region forward

The MongolZ's second place finish at the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025 saw them create history for not only themselves but for the entire Asian region as well. By becoming the first-ever Asian team to make the Grand Final of the Counter-Strike Major, bLitz and his boys have shown the world that the Asian region is here to fight and not just be pushovers.

bLitz and co. have compelled us to take a walk down memory lane, reflecting on how Asian teams have performed over 12 years of Counter-Strike Majors. Here is a rundown of the best placements of Asian teams at the biggest Counter-Strike stage.

*We have taken a look at only Asian teams in this list and not teams from the Oceania region

5. IHC: 12th-15th at IEM Rio Major 2022 Challengers Stage

The rise of Mongolian CS began with IHC. The team first appeared in the PGL Antwerp Major 2022 Challenger Stage with a lineup of Techno, blitz, nin9, kabal, and sk0R. Consequently, at IEM Rio Major 2022 Challengers Stage Annihilation replaced nin9.

Talking about the results, in both instances, they could only manage a second last finish at the Challenger Stages. Though their result was veiled in early exits, those early appearances laid the groundwork for the legacy that The MongolZ would go on to build.

5. VICI: 9th-11th at IEM Katowice 2019 Challengers Stage

The lineup of advent, zhokiNg, kaze, Freeman, and aumaN secured a 9th-12th slot at the IEM Katowice 2019 Challengers Stage with 2 wins and 3 losses. The team fell just short of qualifying for the Major, losing to Ninjas in Pyjamas after defeating the likes of fnatic and Cloud9,

4. IndiaWolves: 13th-16th at ESL One Cologne 2014

The first and only Indian team to play at a Major, till date Wolves participated in the ESL One Cologne 2014. With ESL's association with NODWIN Gaming, an Indian Qualifier was conducted through which Wolves qualified for the Major. However, they were eliminated in last place, after losses to Ninjas in Pyjamas Hellraisers in Bo1s. At that time, the team boasted a lineup including RITz, astaRR, RIX, Ace, and MithilF.

Wolves remain India's only Major representatives till date

3. TYLOO: 12th-14th at FACEIT Major 2018

TYLOO has long carried the weight of Asian CS:GO fans on their shoulders at Counter-Strike Majors. Their first appearance at the biggest stage, a historic run at the FACEIT Major 2018 saw them finishing 6th-8th in the Challengers Stage before ultimately placing second-to-last in the Major.

However, that moment marked their peak. At the next IEM Katowice 2019 Challenger Stage, TYLOO was joined by Vici, but both Chinese teams fell just short of qualifying for the Major. Since then, TYLOO has struggled to regain their former glory, finishing last in the StarLadder Major Berlin 2019 Challengers Stage, and second-to-last in the PGL Stockholm Major 2021 Challengers Stage, before falling short again.

2. The MongolZ: Top 8 at Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024

The story of The MongolZ has been nothing short of inspiring. Their early footings in the Majors doesn't take us that far back. At the start of 2024, in the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 Opening Stage, they defeated teams like Legacy, Lynn Vision, and AMKAL to secure a 6th-8th finish, advancing to the elimination stage.

Although they were knocked out without a win there, their progress in such a short span till now is a testament to their growth. Then, with a flawless 3-0 record under their belt in the Perfect World Shanghai CS2 Major Elimination Stage, The MongolZ created history. They became the first Asian teams in the history of Counter-Strike Major to ever reach playoffs.
