CS: Legacy confirms uninterrupted development
The makers of Counter-Strike: Legacy have confirmed that the title remains in development and uninterrupted by Valve. The game reportedly uses Valve's public Source SDK Base 2013. This is set to be a non commercial Source Engine project, the same framework that was used to develop CSPromod in 2007.
CS: Legacy took to X after the community started speculating the title's future following Counter-Strike: Classic Offensive's cancellation. In their writeup, the developers mention that they don't intend on selling or monetizing the game in a any way.
The development team claims that "Everything - from visuals to UI to characters" was built by themselves from scratch. "CS:Legacy continues active development within the official SDK license framework. Our approach has always been to build the project transparently, cleanly, and respectfully, and that will remain true regardless of what comes next." says CS: Legacy's development team in their post on X.
These were the key points in CS: Legacy's post on X:
-
We use the public Source 2013 SDK, officially provided and maintained by Valve on Github.
-
We do not sell or charge for the game in any way.
-
We do not monetize gameplay or provide unlocks, keys, or in-game items.
-
We own 100% of our code and assets — everything from visuals to UI to characters is built from scratch by our team.
-
We do not mount or rely on Valve’s game files. Some legacy sound files are in use, but we are ready to replace them if required.
