Valve modifies VRS region assignment

Liquid's "Asia wildcard" invite drew a lot of ridicule

Valve recently updated a clause in the guidelines surrounding the Valve Regional Standings. The new clause states "Updating regional representation so teams only appear on a single VRS list. In the case of a tie, the team is assigned to the stronger of the two regions".

This means that when a roster falls under two regions simultaneously it will automatically be put under the stronger of the two regions. For instance when a roster can fall under both North America and Asia, it gets placed under North America, opening up opportunities for more teams from the weaker region.

Liquid supposedly received an Asian wildcard invite for a BLAST event back in March 2025 and the Valve Regional Standings drew massive criticism from the community for validating an established North American org under the Asian rankings which could potentially block smaller teams from Asia from breaking into the international circuit.
