New CS2 scam that used a fake game and was almost impossible to detect

A very elaborate scam was recently brought to light by Redditor Key-Appearance-7257 and Remix, a skin enthusiast on X. The scam was difficult to detect and could even fool connoisseurs if they were not careful.

In this scam, the perpetrators sent a trade offer that looked like a regular CS2 skin trade. However, if you looked closely, you’d have realized that the item they had included, while appearing to be a CS2 skin, was actually from a game called Plumber's Legacy.

The scammers had managed to create fake CS2 items in Plumber's Legacy that looked nearly identical to the real ones, likely as part of a larger ploy. However, Steam took quick actions to take the game down, preventing this scam from garnering more victims.

But there is always the possibility of Scammers creating another fake game with fake CS2 items. The only way to protect yourself from this scam is to hover over the items and ensure they are actually from CS2.
