G2 stun Vitality to win BLAST Open London 2025
G2 picked up their first trophy of 2025 as huNter- and co. showed resilience to see off Vitality in the Grand Final of the BLAST Open London 2025. A BO5 final, which saw all maps take place saw G2 start with a stomp before Vitality dominated back and looked like they'd walk away with a reverse sweep before MATYS stepped up massively for G2 in the final two maps to see them stun the reigning Major champions.
Barring a ZywOo ace on the B site towards the end of the opening half, Vitality put up a toothless T side on their pick of Dust2 which saw G2 race away to a dominating 10-2 lead before closing out the opening map of the final at 13-3. On their pick of Mirage, despite going 0-4 down, G2 managed to turn around a couple of 4v5s to tie up the opening half on their T side but it was all ZywOo as the French superstar kicked off the second half on Mirage with the second ace of the final and a flawless CT half from Vitality which saw ZywOo not even die once, had the Austin Major champions tie up the series with a 13-6 win. ZywOo ended Mirage with an incredible 30 kills, dropping 16 kills on his T side without dying even once.
A six round streak despite going 0-4 down saw G2 start with six CT rounds but a flawless CT half from Vitality led by flameZ saw Vitality pick up a 13-6 win on Overpass to take the lead in the final. Inferno was another tight opening half, starting the same way as the opening two maps as G2 clawed back into the map at the end of the half to once again tie up the score at 6-6. Despite losing the second half pistol and conversion and going 6-9 down, MATYS and malbsMd made sure G2 weren't going down without a fight as they pushed it to overtime and a clean sweep in overtime saw them steal a 16-12 win to tie up the final 2-2.
HeavyGod kicked off the decider on Train with a Dualies ace which saw G2 go 6-0 up before ropz's Deagle opened up the B site for Vitality's first T round. Vitality barely found footing on their T side as HeavyGod with late impact from huNter- saw G2 go 8-4 up. A clean T side kicked off with a MATYS quad in the final pistol of the game saw G2 ease to a 13-6 win as MATYS' early multi-kill rounds saw them dismantle Vitality's defence. A dominant win on Train saw G2 take the title after a hard-fought 3-2 win to pick up the team's first trophy of 2025.
