Valve cracks down on additional information deadline

Valve updates tournament guidelines

Disqualification rules, additional information requirements modified

Valve's constantly evolving tournament guidelines gets yet another update. In its most recent modification, Valve emphasizes on disqualification criteria or rules after a tournament's additional information deadline. Valve condemns selective application of disqualification rules at the tournament organizer's discretion and demands transparency and uniform enforcement. On the other hand, IEM Chengdu receives an exception to run third/fourth place matches and for prize pool divisions.

"Disqualification rules cannot be selectively applied at the discretion of the tournament operator. They must be transparent, based exclusively on specific objective criteria and applied irrespective of the affected roster or circumstances surrounding the tournament", says Valve in their modified clause. The earlier clause vaguely mentioned integrity and conduct rules as probable cause to enforce disqualifications.

The additional information deadlines for tournaments have been updated, making it mandatory for tournament organizers to announce additional details as follows:

  • Tier 1 or Tier 1 Wildcard tournaments - Two weeks prior to any open qualifier or ten months before the main event (earlier of the two).

  • Tier 2 tournaments (VRS)- Two months before main event.

  • Tier 2 tournaments (Non-VRS) - Two weeks before the main event.
