Metastack's latest video features Gooseman in a competitive CS2 match

"It just gave my bullets 50% more power": Counter-Strike's creator on his early game exploits

Gooseman looks back at his CS1.6 days; reflects on cheats, backdoors and exploits

Counter-Strike's creator Minh "Gooseman" Le, booted up Counter-Strike 2 and hopped into an official matchmaking server with the Metastack team in a recent YouTube video. Joined by Metastak CEO Feed, Co-Founder and former pro X-Rigg, analyst Kess1d, and the team’s marketing lead Nadjaao the session quickly turned into a nostalgic dive into the formative days of the franchise once the chaotic initial rounds were out of the way.

Between rounds, Gooseman was asked a light hearted question on one of Counter-Strike 1.6's longest running myths- whether he had ever installed a backdoor in the game. Surprisingly, Gooseman confirmed the story with context. The creator of Counter-Strike admitted to leaving a backdoor for himself, giving him the permissions to kick players from public servers to make space for his friends. Harmless in function and practical in purpose, the backdoor was more of a convenience shortcut than a competitive exploit.

Upon digging deeper, Gooseman revealed that he also had a lightweight script that would increase the damage values for his bullets.

I did have this cheat, I can't remember what it did to be honest. I think it just gave my bullets like 50% more power.
