FACEIT announces new scoreboard metric
FACEIT has announced yet another change to the platform, adding to the long list of changes that are to come with season 8. Today's announcement reveals a new scoreboard metric- the FACEIT rating. "It’s a new performance metric designed to show how much your impact changed the result of a match, not just what your scoreboard looks like at the end", says FACEIT in their blogpost, describing the new metric.
At a fundamental level, FACEIT rating aims to deliver more nuanced post-match information about a player's performance, like the HLTV rating. While scoreboard stacks kills and arranges players by the number of kills or amount of damage dealt, the FACEIT rating takes into account other crucial and definitive context to award points to a kill, which stacks up eventually within the metric.
FACEIT points out how an entry frag in a 5v5 to open up a bombsite and an exit frag counts as the same in a conventional scoreboard but worlds apart when presented with context as an example to what FACEIT rating aims to solve. The metric at the moment will not replace Elo or have an effect on matchmaking but can help answer important questions like-
-
How much did I contribute to the result?
-
Am I performing at the level I’m in?
-
If I keep playing like this, am I likely to climb to a higher level?
