Vitality's map win streak ends at 24
Vitality, whose current roster has been in the conversation for one of the greatest Counter-Strike teams of all time, saw their map win streak come to an end at the hands of G2. Vitality, who were on a 24-map win streak as they headed into the Playoff qualification game against G2 at the ongoing IEM Rio 2026, dropped the opening map on Mirage to be unable to create another record.
Vitality came into their Group A upper bracket semi-final at IEM Rio 2026 against G2 on a 24 map win streak and were looking to catch Ninjas in Pyjamas' 34 map win streak record, which they had created between 2012 and 2013. Vitality were the favourites to pick up yet another 2-0 against a G2 squad without their captain, huNter-, but on Mirage, G2's map pick, they suffered their first map loss in almost two months.
A back and forth start to Mirage had seen G2 take a two-round lead on their T side before a flawless CT side saw G2 secure a dominant 13-5 win to end Vitality's incredible map win streak. The last time Vitality had lost a map was to The MongolZ at the PGL Cluj-Napoca 2026 in their swiss round 2 game, where The MongolZ had started with a 13-10 win but were reverse swept by apEX and his boys. Since then Vitality were at their dominant best, going series after series without dropping a single map and also picked up the PGL Cluj-Napoca 2026 and BLAST Open Rotterdam 2026 titles.
The map win streak might be over but Vitality are still in action and looking to secure the reverse sweep against G2 and make their way to the Playoffs at IEM Rio 2026.
