THUNDER dOWNUNDER suffers first loss at Cologne at the hands of B8
THUNDER dOWNUNDER were unable to punish a B8 squad not at their usual best as the Ukrainian team picked up a close 13-11 win in their 1-0 bracket game at the ongoing IEM Cologne Major 2026 Stage 1. The loss sees the Australian team fall to the 1-1 bracket after starting their campaign with a strong win earlier in the day.
alex666 denied dexter a 1v3 to get the action going on Dust2 and B8 kept it clean early on to put up four rounds on the trot. dexter and TjP teamed up to hand THUNDER dOWNUNDER their first round and the Australian squad made it back-to-back rounds to gain early momentum and broke B8's economy to put up five in a row to take the lead. After six in a row from the Australian team B8 stole a low buy round before a B hit with impact from aliStair's AWP saw THUNDER dOWNUNDER end with a two-round lead at the half break.
A triple from aliStair saw THUNDER dOWNUNDER lock in both pistols on Dust2 thanks to a B site retake but a quick force buy hit on the A site saw B8 answer back instantly with the force. B8 tied up the score in no time before it looked like the Australian team would get on the board but esenthial and s1zzi turned a 3v5 for B8 to keep the streak going. A dexter triple saw THUNDER dOWNUNDER convert a 3v5 of their own to get on the board and a back and forth end to the half saw B8 hold on in an A execute to pick up a narrow 13-11 win.
