BEC Tokyo 2026: Recap
BestFive Elite Competition Tokyo came to a close last week. The LAN event saw six teams in the first stage split into two groups. Each group hosted a round-robin iteration before sending the top four into a single-elimination bracket playoffs.
Group A
Qualifying teams:
-
mega mega (1-1 | +2 RD) -
EXCIDIUM (1-1 | 0 RD)
With each team posting a win and a loss, Group A turned out to be a nail-biter. mega mega took down EXCIDIUM in the opening game with a tight 13-9 score line despite securing an 8-4 lead on the T-side of Mirage. EXCIDIUM opened their account in no time, taking down CORE in their next game with a similar 13-9 score line. EXCIDIUM posted an 8-2 T-side on Nuke, coming back from a 5-7 CT-side deficit.
CORE's game against mega mega was set to be the decider and the game played out all 24 rounds with teams trading back and forth. CORE squeezed out a narrow 13-11 win as each team in Group A now had one win to their name. A round-difference of -2 kept CORE from advancing as mega mega and EXCIDIUM booked their playoffs spots.
Group B
Qualifying teams:
-
RAVENS (2-0 | +12 RD) -
GenZ ClaN (1-1 | +7 RD)
RAVENS took on MXPS in Group B's opening game and the former put up an impressive CT-side defense on Nuke, sliding a 10-2 half in their favor. After taking down MXPS 13-3, RAVENS were pushed to their limits as GenZ ClaN handed them a 5-7 deficit on the CT-side of Dust2. RAVENS returned the favor on their T-side, putting eight rounds on the trot to take Dust2 13-11 and clear Group B with a flawless 2-0.
The decider between MXPS and GenZ ClaN was one-sided to say the least. GenZ ClaN pulled off a near-flawless T-side on Mirage, handing MXPS a crippling 1-11 disadvantage. Despite MXPS converting pistol, anti-eco and bonus rounds in the second half, GenZ ClaN comfortably closed Mirage 13-4, moving forward.
