Falcons - FURIA look for historic Cologne Major
After Falcons' win over Spirit last night in the second semi-final of the IEM Cologne Major 2026, the grand finalists of the Major final was confirmed as Falcons will take on FURIA for the Major title in the iconic LANXESS Arena. The final will also see plenty of storylines across both teams in play.
Here's a look at a couple of things that we are excited for.
NiKo's first Major
Should Falcons take down FURIA to see the Saudi Arabian organisation win their first Major title, it will also be a first Major title for one of Counter-Strike's greatest, NiKo. With the Major title being the only big title missing from his trophy cabinet, NiKo has already written himself into the history books with his in-server performances but that Major title has always eluded him.
Most recently, his last Major final, was the PGL Stockholm 2021, where NiKo and G2 went down to s1mple's Natus Vincere (NAVI) which saw s1mple pick up his only Major title till date but NiKo's trophy cabinet still waits for the Major trophy. The IEM Cologne Major 2026 will be NiKo's third Major final and it will also be his second with his current captain, karrigan. NiKo and karrigan were part of the famous ELEAGUE Major 2018 in Boston where the starred FaZe team went down to Cloud9.
Post that Major final loss, both NiKo and karrigan's careers went separate ways and it would be only poetic that both win a Major title together, to bury the ghosts of Boston and start a new era together. The super team project didn't work in FaZe but karrigan and NiKo now have the chance to make it work in Falcons.
karrigan's incredible story
A couple of months ago, karrigan was not even supposed to be at the IEM Cologne Major 2026 after failing to take his FaZe team to the Major. karrigan and FaZe failed to qualify for the Major and the community was uncertain about karrigan's future, given the age and form of the 36-year old Danish captain. In a sensational last minute move, Falcons swooped in just before the deadlines and signed karrigan from FaZe as the Saudi Arabian organisation aimed to use the veteran leader's experience to boost their Major chances.
The rest has been nothing short of special. karrigan's first event with Falcons was PGL Astana 2026, where he took the team to the final but Falcons fell in the final to Spirit to go home with the silver medal. Next up for Falcons and karrigan was the CS Asia Championships 2026, where it was another second place finish. With two second place trophies and some time with the team under his belt, karrigan got his Falcons squad to Germany for the IEM Cologne Major 2026.
Starting their campaign in Stage 3, Falcons started with a win over G2 before going down to BetBoom. They then beat Monte and Natus Vincere (NAVI) to make the Playoffs. In the quarter-finals, Falcons took down the favourites and defending champions Vitality before karrigan's boys slayed Spirit to make the final.
For karrigan, it would be his second Major title and his first CS2 Major should Falcons get over the line today but it would also be some personal redemption have being heaviliy criticised for jumping ship from FaZe to Falcons last minute by the Counter-Strike community. karrigan led FaZe to an iconic run in Budapest last Major, where they finished second but a Major win here would go down in history as one of the all-time great Major runs. For karrigan personally, he will like to get another Major title after having a host of second place finishes in Counter-Strike Majors. It will also be karrigan's second Major after his win with FaZe in the PGL Antwerp 2022.
FalleN's Last Dance at his favourite Cologne
Earlier this year, Brazilian Counter-Strike and the sports' one of the most iconic names, FalleN announced that this season would be his final one as a player as he has decided to hang up the mouse. In his final season in the game, the veteran Brazilian will look to head out on a high and nothing would be better than a win in Cologne, the place where he has already won a Major title.
FalleN and SK won the ESL One Cologne 2016 Major almost a decade ago, beating Liquid in the final and it is one of two Major titles that FalleN has and it was also FalleN and his squad not only bringing belief in the Brazilians post that but a lot of the current younger generation players have been inspired by FalleN and his teammates' Major wins a decade ago, which led to them picking up the mouse.
A win in Cologne today will be FURIA's first Major title as an organisation and it would be also special for FalleN and co., those who chose to move away from a full-Brazilian squad and brought in the likes of molodoy and YEKINDAR to the team a year ago. Since then, FURIA has put themselves as regular title contenders and while its been difficult to win titles in the Vitality-era, FalleN has made sure his team is always in the conversation as one of the title contenders and with no Vitality right now to stop them, FURIA have a chance to wrap up the unfinished business.
Having gone flawless in Stage 3 with a 3-0 record, FURIA remains the only team currently in the tournament alive who are yet to drop a series in Cologne.
KSCERATO's redemption
Regarded as one of Brazil's best, KSCERATO has had a mixed career with plenty of personal achievements but that has never transformed to title wins for his teams. After yuurih, KSCERATO is the longest-standing member of FURIA and having joined FURIA back in 2018, KSCERATO's name has been linked with multiple teams but he has never left the Brazilian team. A lot of people questioned the 26-year old for not choosing better options at the time but he stayed loyal to FURIA and it is finally paying off.
There is no questioning his individual brilliance, a six-time HLTV Top 20 Player of the Year with multiple other individual trophies but in the 10 Majors he has played, he has never made the final. Making the final has already been his best ever placing in a Major, but one of Brazil's finest will look to go the extra distance and make it a title win.
Undisputed and in a league of his own
Despite having won five CS:GO Majors as a coach with two different organisations, Danish coach zonic has been questioned by the Counter-Strike community for his inability to make Falcons win a notable title. The 39-year old multiple Major winning coach now has the chance to write his name into the history books with a sixth Counter-Strike Major title as a coach and it would also be his first CS2 Major.
Having take up the coaching role with Falcons in the end of 2023, the trophies have been missing during his Falcons stint as constant roster changes didn't help either. In the two and a half years as head coach of Falcons, zonic's only title with the team has been the PGL Bucharest 2025 win as they team finished second to Vitality a host of times in 2025 and already has had two second place finishes this year.
Falcons and zonic now have the chance to win a Major title, which will not only bring about some redemption for zonic but also put himself in a league of his own when it comes to the question of the greatest Counter-Strike coach.
