Falcons clear Cologne 2026 playoffs on hard-mode

The IEM Cologne 2026 Major concluded yesterday marking the fourth Counter-Strike 2 Major. Falcons cleared one of the hardest playoff brackets in recent times, taking down prime Vitality, Spirit and Falcons while each team had their own storyline. Vitality had the chance to cement themself as the greatest of all time by levelling the hattrick Major run record set by Astralis, FURIA were in overdrive to end FalleN's last dance on a high note and magixx was on a mission to prove himself as an in-game leader.

Lets take a quick look at all the Counter-Strike 2 Major winners so far starting with the most recent one.

NiKo bags a Major trophy in his 17th attempt

After ten long years, Counter-Strike's biggest and most important tournament returned to the Cathedral as thirty two teams took stage to battle it out for Counter-Strike's biggest trophy. The air was filled with storylines- FalleN's last dance, Vitality's chance to cement themself as the greatest of all time by levelling Astralis's hattrick Major run, another chance for NiKo to get his hands on the elusive Major trophy.

From the get-go, there was magic in the Falcons camp. karrigan, who wasn't even supposed to be at the Major, jumped ship to join Falcons and sail into the Major. After clearing a 3-1 group stage, Falcons were handed one of the hardest playoff brackets ever- they started with a grueling win against Vitality and then stood their ground against Spirit to lock in a grand-final clash against FURIA. The NiKo-karrigan duo took stage at ELEAGUE Boston 2018, eight years ago but failed to get their hands on a Major trophy.

Falcons cruised their way to a monumental grand-final win under karrigan as NiKo's Major trophy draught came to an end. Hailed as one of the greatest riflers to touch modern Counter-Strike, NiKo now finally has the game's biggest trophy to his name. zonic has now bagged six Major trophies as a coach with three different organizations. NiKo, known for disappearing in big matches, stepped up massively for Falcons in the playoffs, making the win all the more poetic.

Vitality bagged 7 S-tier trophies in a row to kick off 2025

Signing off from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive after winning the game's last Major on home turf at BLAST.tv Paris 2023, Vitality took their time transitioning into the game's Source 2 remake. Arguably the most important roster move for Vitality came in early 2025 in the form of ropz's transfer from FaZe.

A star rifler in ropz and a stellar AWP in ZywOo combined with apEX's mastermind leadership turned out to be the perfect formula for success for Vitality. The French org won event after event in 2025, taking home six S-tier titles in a row before coming into the Major. Vitality were on a 30-match LAN win streak which ended at the Austin Major but the team comfortably made playoffs.

Taking down NAVI and MOUZ, Vitality booked their grand-final clash against The MongolZ. The MongolZ put up a dominant opening map performance on Mirage, momentarily raising doubts for Vitality, but Vitality recovered and reverse swept the bo3, to win the BLAST.tv Austin 2025 Major. Vitality's Austin Major win makes apEX the most decorated player in Counter-Strike's history with 33 notable trophies to his name. Coming into the second season of the year, Vitality could not replicate their first half dominance but were no less of a threat.

After their win at ESL Pro League Season 22 in October, Vitality secured playoffs finishes at IEM Chengdu and BLAST Rivals Season 2. Their Major campaign at Budapest began with a loss against FaZe but apEX and co. quickly bounced back to clear the group stage 3-1. Taking down Spirit and The MongolZ in the playoffs, Vitality set themselves up for a FaZe rematch in the grand-final. Vitality lost the opening map but mezii went berserk in the next two with ratings of 1.70 and 2.00 as ropz delivered the final blow with a crushing 2.89 rating on Overpass, netting Vitality their second Major trophy of the year and third overall. Vitality are the only team so far to have won two Counter-Strike 2 Majors.

Perfect World Shanghai 2024 Major

donk becomes the youngest Major winner at Perfect World Shanghai 2024

donk announced his entry loud and clear at IEM Katowice 2024, dropping record breaking performance, to fetch Spirit their first IEM Katowice title. However, Spirit were stopped in their tracks by FaZe at Counter-Strike 2's first Major, PGL Copenhagen 2024 in the quarter-final.

Spirit's 2024 looked shaky after the first Major and they barely made it out of the European RMR for the Shanghai Major. Spirit cleaned up their act at Perfect World Shanghai 2024 with a 3-1 run in the elimination stage. Taking down Liquid and MOUZ, they came face to face with FaZe, the same team that removed them from contention in the previous Major.

A thrilling 3-map series turned out to be a nail-bitter as Spirit edged out FaZe in the decider with donk going ballistic with a 1.98 HLTV rating as FaZe suffered back to back Major grand-final losses. Spirit are coming into the BLAST.tv Austin 2025 Major as the defending champions.

NAVI

PGL Copenhagen 2024

jL was awarded the Major MVP at Copenhagen 2024

After winning PGL Stockholm 2021, marking s1mple's first ever Major win, NAVI could not go the distance at Majors in 2022 and 2023. PGL Copenhagen 2024 was Counter-Strike 2's first Major and FaZe came in as massive favorites to take the trophy home. ropz had taken his game to the next level upon Counter-Strike 2's release, rain looked in stellar form and karrigan was calling brilliant games; all in all the Major trophy had FaZe's name written all over it.

NAVI on the other hand came into the Major without s1mple, one of the biggest names in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The aleksib-led roster came under scrutiny often for falling short at concluding stages of big events. The roster however silenced all doubts, bagging Counter-Strike 2's first Major trophy.

After getting stomped by FaZe on the second map of the grand-final, NAVI put up a dominant 13-2 win on Inferno with b1t holding an astounding 2.21 rating in the deciding map. NAVI's last notable event win came at ESL Pro League Season 20 in September 2024.
