Skyesports CEGC CS2 receives exception from Valve
In an eventful day, Skyesports took to X officially announcing the rescheduling of their upcoming CEGC CS2 qualifiers to comply with Valve's Tournament Operation Requirements and a few hours down the line, officially announced that these qualifiers would revert to their original timelines as mentioned in the initial announcement. Skyesports wrote to Valve concerning the TOR compliance for the event and apparently the latter granted an exception for CEGC's CS2 event.
In their initially announcement timeline, the registrations and the qualifiers did not match the specified minimum uptime requirements as per Valve's TOR and as a result, Skyesports planned to push the qualifiers back by a couple of days to fit the tournament's timeline into TOR compliance. The initially announced dates, which the tournament will stick to are as follows:
Southeast Asia Qualifiers
-
Dates: October 17 - October 19, 2025
-
Top 2 teams qualify for main LAN in Chennai, India
European Qualifiers
-
Dates: October 21 - October 23, 2025
-
Top 2 teams qualify for main LAN in Chennai, India
Indian Qualifiers
-
Dates: October 24 - October 26, 2025
-
Top 2 teams qualify for main LAN in Chennai, India
Complexity's General Manager, Graham Pitt known for his sharp and unfiltered criticism towards tournament organizers and their deviations from guidelines/requirements did not let this slip under his radar. "You broke TOR so many times, I can't imagine this event is going to (be) ranked for VRS." said Pitt in a reply to Skyesports' post on X rescheduling the qualifiers. When a X user asked Pitt to elaborate his case, the latter pointed out several inconsistencies with the tournament's details that slightly deviated from Valve's TOR.
First qualifiers were announced on October 4th (5th in India), with the first qualifier being October 17th -> breaks point 4.3.c) of TOR as 13(12) days is less than 2 weeks.
Same announcement had the signups open immediately which also broke 4.3.c) of the TOR due to there not being a 1 week gap between announcement and opening of signups.
New announcement of changed open qualifier dates logically resets the announcement period for additional information - since it includes the open qualifier information as a part of it.
This would also break 4.3.c) of the TOR as now there is only 7 days between announcement of open qualifier information and the open qualifier beginning - and signups are already closed which surely cannot apply when dates are changed like this.
