SPUNJ's DFRAG Wildcard LAN Season 1 donation cancelled

VRS tournament rules don't allow it

Just days after Australian tournament organiser DFRAG had announced that Counter-Strike talent Chad 'SPUNJ' Burchill had provided additional donation for the DFRAG Wildcard LAN Season 1 prize pool to boost it to $25,000 AUD, the organiser has revealed that the additional amount provided by SPUNJ cannot be accepted.

As per the VRS Tournament Operation Guidelines, point 4.3.1b states that Tier-2 tournaments featuring VRS invitations and Tier-2 Wildcard tournaments should provide additional information, increase of prize pool in this case, 'two months before the Tournament main event or two weeks prior to any Open Qualifier.' With the time period having been passed, the addition to the initial prize pool by the donation from SPUNJ can't be accept by DFRAG as they risk losing out their 'Ranked Status' for the event, so they have decided to carry on with the initially announced prize pool of $20,000 AUD.

DFRAG states that they will internally work it out on how to use the contribution from SPUNJ to 'better the state of competitive Counter-Strike in the Oceanic region.'

The DFRAG Wildcard LAN Season 1 will be an eight team LAN event held in Brisbane with two teams being invited from the Oceania VRS rankings and the remaining six coming through the open qualifiers. The Open Qualifiers have already began with the third qualifier currently going on right on.

The main event, the DFRAG Wildcard LAN Season 1 will take place between March 12, 2026 and March 15, 2026 with the eight teams being placed in two groups of four. The teams will follow a double elimination group stage format with the top two from each group moving to the Playoffs. The Playoffs will be double elimination encounters as well.
