THUNDER dOWNUNDER wins ANZC Locals Brisbane 2026; shoots up the ladder for Cologne Major 2026 invite list
dexter's THUNDER dOWNDER have made it back-to-back LAN wins as they have taken down SemperFi in the final of the ANZC Locals Brisbane 2026. It's not only a title in the bag but also some much needed points that saw shot THUNDER dOWNUNDER up the ladder for an invite to the IEM Cologne Major 2026. As it stands currently, THUNDER dOWNUNDER will get an invite to Stage 1 of the Cologne Major 2026, if the invites went out today.
The final kicked off on Ancient, SemperFi's pick and despite picking up the T pistol and conversions, it was dexter and co. taking a 7-5 lead as aliStair had a strong CT half. The asap show on the T side saw THUNDER dOWNUNDER run away with a 13-10 win to draw first blood in the ginal.
On their own pick of Inferno a late six round streak helped THUNDER dOWNUNDER tie up the opening half despite dropping the opening pistol once again. A back and forth second half saw dexter and his boys hit match point first but SemperFi held on to push it to overtime. After a flawless first half in overtime, THUNDER dOWNUNDER wrapped it up quicly at 16-13 to take the series 2-0.
The two teams had made it to the Playoffs by topping their respective groups as both game into the Playoffs with a flawless run in the group stages. SemperFi took down Ground Zero in their opening game in the Playoffs while THUNDER dOWNUNDER brushed aside Arcade. The two teams had faced off in the upper final where aliStair starred to see THUNDER dOWNUNDER pick up a 2-1 win to make the finals while SemperFi had to beat Arcade in the Consolidation final to make it a rematch of the upper bracket final in the grand final as well.
The final was also a rematch of the DFRAG Wildcard LAN Season 1 final, which took place last weekend where THUNDER dOWNUNDER were triumphant as well, beating SemperFi itself in the Brisbane LAN tournament.
