SemperFi goes down in the final

dexter's THUNDER dOWNUNDER have won DFRAG Wildcard LAN Season 1 as they beat compatriots SemperFi in the final. The three map final saw asap and Liazz have strong performances which helped THUNDER dOWNUNDER pick up a 2-1 win to lift the trophy. The final was a rematch of the upper bracket final match where SemperFi had beaten THUNDER dOWNUNDER but in the match that mattered, it was dexter and co. coming out on top.

THUNDER dOWNUNDER had a clean run through the group stages as they had taken down Time Waves and Ground Zero to move to the Playoffs. After a big win over Mindfreak in their opening round game in the Playoffs, the upper bracket final saw SemperFi edge out dexter and co. which dropped THUNDER dOWUNDER to the consolidation final. After fighting off a resilient Ground Zero in the consolidation final, THUNDER dOWNUNDER not take won the title but also dished out revenge for the upper bracket final loss.

SemperFi meanwhile, made the Playoffs from Group and after a flawless run in the group stage where they picked up 2-0 wins over Skele and Mindfreak, the continued their stunning run, taking down Ground Zero and THUNDER dOWNUNDER in the upper bracket games to make the final.

The final got underway on THUNDER dOWNUNDER's pick of Inferno as asap and aliStair's CT prowess saw them go 8-4 up before a relatively clean T side helped them draw first blood in the final with a 13-7 win. Moving to SemperFi's pick of Ancient, it was a back and forth affair as a string of rounds for both teams saw SemperFi see off two match and championship points to force overtime. A 30-kill performance from keen saw SemperFi fight back to tie the series with a hardfought 19-16 win. The decider on Anubis was the Liazz show as THUNDER dOWNUNDER put up a dominant show to close out the final with a 13-6 win to pick up a 2-1 series win and take home the title.

The DFRAG Wildcard LAN Season 1 win for THUNDER dOWNUNDER sees them make a prominent jump in the VRS invite race for the IEM Cologne 2026 Major with dexter and co. currently expected to make Stage 1 with the current standings but with a host of Asian LAN events left, we still might see some changes in the team list that will go to Cologne.

Despite going down in the final, SemperFi are also still in the race for a Stage 1 invite as well with the current standings predicting three Oceania teams to make Stage 1 as FlyQuest, THUNDER dOWNUNDER and SemperFi are all expected to get to Stage 1 of IEM Cologne Major 2026.
