
Ground Zero wins PGL Astana 2026 Oceania Closed Qualifier
Abyssal who were knocked down to the lower bracket by Ground Zero in the opening round of the PGL Astana 2026 Oceania closed qualifier got a free consolidation final spot off of Mindfreak's no-show and took down 11mins 2-0 to set up a rematch against Ground Zero in the grand-final. The best-of-three started on Anubis and Abyssal looked quite different from their earlier encounter, handing down a 3-9 disadvantage to Ground Zero in the first half off of dangeR's 1.90 rating t-side.
Dropping just a single round in the second half, Abyssal closed Anubis 13-4 to go 1-0 up in the series, just a single map win away from closing the grand-final. Ground Zero's proactive CT-side on Mirage netted them a 7-5 lead at half time which eventually came back to their rescue, pushing them ahead in the back and forth trades on their T-side. With pz and apocdud stepping up, Ground Zero bounced back and tied the series at 1-1 after winning Mirage 13-10.
Having exchanges map picks, both teams met on Nuke, the decider. Ground Zero started on the T-side with pistol, anti-eco and bonus conversions but ended up dropping the first gun round as dangeR sprayed down three with a saved AK to secure Abyssal's first round win. Ground Zero still managed to fetch themself an 8-4 lead in the first half, however pistol and anti-eco wins in the second half set Abyssal on the comeback path.

With this win, Ground Zero now head to the Asian closed qualifier, where a couple of match wins can confirm their PGL Astana 2026 spot.
