The MongolZ take down magic in Astana opener
One of the two Asian teams at PGL Astana 2026, The MongolZ, started their tournament campaign with a 2-0 win over magic. While the scoreline on paper might be a 2-0, The MongolZ were pushed to the limit in the series opener, where they were pushed to quadruple overtime but once they got the job done on Mirage, it was normal service on Inferno as the Asian powerhouses put in a dominant show to close out the series.
magic's pick of Mirage got the action going as The MongolZ started with the CT pistol and conversion but weren't able to find anything in the gun rounds that saw magic go 9-3 up. The T side pistol saw magic hit double digits but a crucial force buy saw The MongolZ hit back and a nine-round T side of their own saw them head to overtime. magic started with a clean CT side in overtime before The MongolZ hit back to push double overtime and the back and forth affair continued and it took four overtimes for The MongolZ to wrap things up finally at 25-23 with 910, cobrazera and mzinho being the heavy hitters with 38, 36 and 34 kills respectively.
A full-house from 910 and mzinho saw The MongolZ start their map pick of Inferno with the T pistol and early T side advantage saw them go 8-4 up before a flawless CT side saw bLitz close out a 13-4 win with a knife kill as 910 shone once again with 17 kills. The win helps The MongolZ move into the 1-0 bracket where they join the likes of HEROIC and G2.
