The Huns sent home from Astana after valiant fight against Monte
The Huns' campaign in Astana has come to an end after being eliminated by Monte in their 1-2 bracket elimination game at PGL Astana 2026. The Huns fought valiantly to try to reverse sweep Monte and stay alive in the tournament but fell short at the final hurdle, going down in overtime to exit the tournament in 12-14th place.
The Huns started their elimination game against Monte on their pick of Nuke, which looked like anything but a comfort pick for the Mongolian team. Barring two B hits including a big multi-kill round from Bastr4k and xerolte, there was nothing to show for on a flat T side which saw Monte go 10-2 up before wrapping things up at 13-2 on the back of the second half pistol win and conversions.
Monte's pick of Dust2 kicked off with sk0R's Dualies handing The Huns their first pistol round in the series. After a clean conversion against the eco, The Huns fell to a late A spilt in the first gun round that saw Monte get on the board before sk0R and nin9's AWP saw The Huns answer back immediately as the Mongolian team went 8-1 up. A quick A split once again saw Monte get their second and they finished the half with three in a row to cut The Huns' lead to four.
AZUWU denied Bart4k at 1v3 to see Monte pick up their CT pistol but the force buy hit on the A site thanks for Bart4k's hero AK and nin9's Deagle helped The Huns get on the board quickly on their T side. The Huns hit map point at 12-5 but Monte fought back with a valiant T side to bring it to two round game with a strong defence before xerolte held on in a 1v1 against afro to see The Huns edge out a 13-10 win.
A retake on the A site saw Monte start the decider on Mirage with the pistol and after four in a row from Monte, an A hit with sk0R and nin9 opening up the site saw The Huns get on the board. Back to back late A hits saw The Huns salvage the half to 5-7 before Rainwaker's triple saw Monte pick up both pistols on Mirage and were 10-5 up after the conversions. Multi-kill rounds from Bart4r and sk0R kept The Huns alive as they fought back to take Mirage to overtime with nin9's AWP having late impact. The Huns, though, lost steam in overtime as Monte closed out Mirage finally at 16-12 to wrap up the series 2-1.
The win puts Monte in the 2-2 bracket while The Huns are sent home from Astana with a 1-3 record.
