The MongolZ crash out of BLAST Rivals Hong Kong
After a disappointing loss to Passion UA in the opener, The MongolZ squared up against Spirit with their tournament survival on the line. The MongolZ took on Spirit last week at IEM Chengdu 2025 and eliminated them from the tournament in a similar do or die match. This time around, Spirit returned the favor, sending The MongolZ home to advance to the quarter-finals.
The MongolZ got off to a strong start in the opening map but once the gun rounds began tN1R and donk, tore through The MongolZ, giving Spirit a big 8-4 lead. No stranger to impossible comebacks, The MongolZ geared up for another off of pistol and anti-eco wins in the second half but could not follow through as Spirit fended off the Mongolians, taking a 13-6 win on Dust2 to go 1-0 up.
The second map took us to Ancient, picked by The MongolZ- one of their stronger maps. After pistol and anti-eco losses on the T-side, The MongolZ momentarily recovered off of individual plays but Spirit's CT-side was a cut above, as the Russians maintained a two round lead at halftime. The MongolZ levelled the score right out the gate in the second half. The game went neck to neck until 10-10 before Spirit closed the map with a trio of rounds, winning Ancient 13-10 and the series 2-0.
With this loss, The MongolZ end their BLAST Rivals Hong Kong journey without a single win. Their stand-in, controlez, once again exceeded expectations, topping the charts for The MongolZ with 34 frags across two maps, trailing donk as the server's second highest fragger. Spirit now head into the playoffs, starting in the quarter-finals. A win in the quarter-final for Spirit will likely set up a Falcons-Spirit rematch in the semi-final.
