HLTV adjusts rating 3.0
HLTV has rolled out a major update to Rating 3.0, adjusting how player performances are evaluated in Counter-Strike 2. The revision focuses on restoring balance between high-output performances and overall impact, refining the system to better represent the flow of present day Counter-Strike.
At the core of Rating 3.0 remains Round Swing, a context-based sub-rating that measures how much a player’s actions influence the outcome of a round. Unlike traditional metrics that rely solely on kills or survival, Round Swing evaluates the significance of each play, rewarding decisive contributions in closely contested rounds while diminishing the value of anti-eco or inconsequential exit frags.
The update, however, rebalances how much Round Swing contributes to the final rating. Its overall weight has been reduced, giving more prominence back to fundamental metrics like kills, damage, and consistency. This adjustment restores a 60-40 balance between output and survival-related stats, aligning 3.0 more closely with the philosophy of Rating 2.0 while preserving the depth introduced by Round Swing.
Several supporting tweaks have been introduced alongside the reweighting. The formula now distributes impact more evenly among players, ensuring that entries, assists, and flash contributions receive fairer recognition. Clutch calculations have also been refined, crediting players not only for multi-kill heroics but also for crucial round-winning plays like defuses or time-based survivals. Remaining impact at the end of rounds is now split more proportionately between clutchers, killers, defusers, and surviving teammates, preventing overcompensation in single moments.
Eco-adjustments have been retuned as well. While the system still accounts for weapon and economy disparities, its influence over smaller samples has been reduced to avoid inflated ratings for losing teams. The eco-adjusted KAST and Damage sub-ratings have been rebalanced, offering slightly fairer treatment to AWPers who traditionally post lower ADR values. A new toggle on match pages now allows users to view eco-adjusted stats such as eK-D and eADR, making it easier to interpret how the economic context shapes each player’s performance.
