The MongolZ reverse swept by BetBoom in their Cologne opener

Sloppy T sides costs The MongolZ

The MongolZ have been reverse swept in their opening game at the IEM Cologne Major 2026 as BetBoom showed resilience to fight back and drop the Mongolian team to the 0-1 bracket in Stage 3. The MongolZ started the series with a dominant opening half on Dust2 but there was little to show after that saw a flat showing saw them suffer a loss in their opening game in Germany.

cobrazera kicked off BetBoom's Dust2 with a big 1v2 in the CT pistol to get things going. After clean conversions against the eco and force it was 910's AWP netting The MongolZ the first gun round as they retook on the A site and had a chance to make it five in a row to start with it was a flub from bLitz on the backstab from Long that saw zorte and d1Ledez turn around a 3v5 for BetBoom. Multi-kill rounds from 910 saw The MongoZ answer back and win out the half. BoombI4's 1v2 saw BetBoom find a second and it was the Russian captain closing out the half with another clutch to hand BetBoom a third although it was 910's 21 kill show that put The MongolZ at 9-3.

A double opener from Techno at Tunnels helped The MongolZ walk into an empty B site which saw them ease to double digits. BetBoom managed to shut an A hit to pick up a big opening gun round of the half but it turned out to be nothing as The MongolZ answered with the mixed buy to hit map point. A couple of multi-kill rounds from BoombI4 and d1Ledez saw BetBoom put together the CT comeback and BetBoom brought it to a one round game at 11-12 as they picked up seven in a row. With four Galils and one AK, The MongolZ converted a mid to B split in the final round of regulation to edge past BetBoom at 13-11.

A B hit saw The MongolZ start their pick of Mirage with the pistol and they followed it up with a clean Palace hit and went 3-0 up before BetBoom kept it clean in the first gun round. BetBoom put up six in a row as The MongolZ looked flat on their T side before a mid-brawl saw The MongolZ convert a late B hit to get back on the board. BetBoom closed the half with a four round lead on their CT side before a clean T side saw them tie up the series with a comfortable 13-8 win.

bLitz denied d1Ledez a 1v3 to see The MongolZ start the decider on Ancient with the CT pistol. After the conversions, it was d1Ledez and Boombl4's Galils that got BetBoom on the board. A five round T streak once the guns came out helped BetBoom tie up the opening half. The CT pistol and a strong defensive hold helped BetBoom edge out with a 13-11 win to complete the reverse sweep and pick up the series 2-1.
