The third stage of the IEM Cologne 2026 Major, the final Swiss system iteration before we head into the playoffs kicked off yesterday. As opposed to earlier stages, Stage 3 features best-of-threes from the get-go. With the first day of play done, lets take a quick look at how things went down in the opening round and how the next round has shaped up.
The MongolZ, PARIVISION concede opening games
-
9z vs
PARIVISION (13-1, Overpass | 8-13, Dust2 | 13-9, Inferno)
9z pulled off a shocker in the first game of Stage 3, taking down Jame's PARIVISION on Overpass with a crushing 13-1 scoreline. luchov went 23-7 with a rating of 2.83, followed by HUASOPEEK at 16-6 with a rating of 2.13 to restrict PARIVISION to just a single round on Overpass. The Russian side levelled the series with a 13-8 on Dust2 but ended up conceding the series 1-2 after 9z bagged a 13-9 win on Inferno. -
BetBoom vs
The MongolZ (11-13, Dust2 | 13-6, Mirage | 13-11, Ancient)
The MongolZ came out all guns blazing on BetBoom's map pick of Dust2, putting up a 9-3 lead on their CT-side. A lackluster T-side from The MongolZ saw BetBoom almost nail the comeback but the former still closed Dust2 13-11. The MongolZ conceded their map pick, Mirage 13-6 after a disappointing 4-8 CT-side campaign as BetBoom levelled the series. The MongolZ fumbled their opening map win after conceding Ancient 13-11 despite bLitz and 910's heroics. BetBoom picked up a 2-1 series win.
MOUZ, FURIA and Aurora start Stage 3 with clean 2-0s
-
MOUZ vs
Legacy (13-5, Dust2 | 13-6, Nuke)
MOUZ took down Legacy on their own map pick of Dust2, 13-5 after a dominant 9-3 CT-side showing. MOUZ held a marginal 7-5 lead on Nuke at halftime after a shaky T-side but put up a near-flawless 6-1 CT-side to take the map away from Legacy 13-6 and close the series 2-0. Excluding xelex, every individual on MOUZ secured ratings in excess of 1.30 across two maps. -
FURIA vs
B8 (13-10, Mirage | 13-4, Inferno)
B8, who scarped through with a 3-2 in the second stage had a tough day at the office, taking on FURIA in their Stage 3 opener. The Brazilians handed B8 a 3-9 disadvantage on their own map pick of Mirage and closed it 13-10 despite B8's late game resurgence. B8 were hammered down with yet another 3-9 in the second map but this time FURIA kept things clean and wrapped up Inferno 13-4 to take a comfortable 2-0 series win. -
Aurora vs
Monte (13-10, Nuke | 13-7, Anubis)
Aurora nearly fumbled their 8-4 CT-side lead on Nuke after letting Monte get comfortable in the second half but kept their cool to recover and close the map 13-10. Monte drew the first half 6-6 on Anubis but failed to contain Aurora's T-side as soulfly and woxic stepped up to push Aurora to a 13-7 win, wrapping the series 2-0.
Vitality and Falcons avoid opening round upsets
-
Vitality vs
FUT (5-13, Anubis | 13-2, Overpass | 13-8, Nuke)
Vitality, one of the favorites to go 3-0 in Stage 3 and probably all the way, could have tumbled down to the 0-1 pool if not for the best-of-three format. After conceding a 5-7 T-side on Anubis, apEX and co. were handed a shocking 0-6 in the second half as FUT displayed a flawless T-side to secure Anubis 13-5. A map was all FUT could take off of Vitality as flameZ and ZywOo stepped up with 2.00+ rating performances on Overpass and Nuke to fetch Vitality a 2-1 series win. -
Falcons vs
G2 (10-13, Inferno | 13-8, Dust2 | 16-13, Ancient)
Falcons, who hold a questionable opening round record at important events were put down by G2 in the opening map, Inferno. Falcons bounced back with a 10-2 T-side on Dust2 and closed the map 13-8 with m0NESY, NiKo and kyousuke topping the charts. Falcons secured a 16-13 overtime win on Ancient to recover and win the series 2-1.
